Is it necessary to seal stone?
All unsealed stone, even granite, is porous to some
degree and absorbs stains over time. Some stones
are more porous than others, so it is important to
use a penetrating sealer to prevent oil, wine, or
other liquid stains from soaking into the surface.
Consult with your fabricator for more information
on natural stone sealers.
Can I cut on my granite countertop?
Granite is harder than your knife blades. If you use
your countertop as a cutting board, the surface will
very quickly dull your knives. It's best though that
you always use a cutting board while cutting.
Do I need an appointment to visit?

How do I buy a slab of stone?
Although Finestone is a wholesale business and as
such, we don't sell direct to the public, but we always
welcome visitors to our Gold Coast Showroom. Stop in
to find expert help in choosing just the right stone for
your decor. We'll not only answer any questions you
have about our stone, we'll also help you choose an
excellent stone manufacturer to quote your bench tops.
Can my Granite top be damaged?
Like any solid surface, high impact blows can harm
granite. Because of its crystalline structure, granite
may chip if subjected to sharp hard objects.
Unsealed granite may absorb stains such as oil,
which may ultimately cause dark spots or
discoloration. Granite is nearly impervious to heat
damage and under normal circumstances, heat
from pots and pans or burning liquids will not
affect granite.
Does Granite stain?
In general, no. Yet although granite has very little
porosity, all stone is porous to some extent. Most
granite colours never show any moisture but a few
may show some moisture if exposed for an extended
period. For example, in a very few colours a puddle
of water left on the counter for 30 minutes may show
a dark spot when the water is wiped away, but when
the spot is dry again no evidence will show.
Can Granite chip?
Granite is one of the strongest stones Mother Nature
makes and only chips in cases of severe abuse with
a hammer or impact tool. In the event that chipping
occurs, the chip can be repaired to near perfection
with a mixture of granite dust and epoxy.
Can I set a hot pot on my granite countertop?
Granite is formed by extreme heat and pressure
combined beneath the earth's crust. Heat from a
cook top or frying pan won't affect your granite
countertop. Even a lit flame placed under the
granite will have no melting effect and will not
leave any burned or scarred marks.
How is granite formed?
Granite is an igneous rock of visible crystalline
formation and texture, composed primarily of
feldspar, quartz, and mica. Granite begins as
liquid magma deep within the earth's core,
where it's cooled and compressed over millions
of years under tons of pressure. Finestone
sources granite from the world's best quarries.
We cut and polish the granite to the beautiful
lustre you expect to see in fine stone.
Will my granite look like the online sample?
The samples you see online are scanned photographs
and as such, colour tones may differ from true.
Variations in computer monitors, monitor resolutions
and browser displays may also alter the original
colours of the online samples. Additionally, consider
that granite is a natural material with naturally
occurring variations in colour, tone, granularity and
pattern. These unique differences are the source of
each stone's natural beauty.
